Mission Statement

The Southern Energy Efficiency Center (SEEC) is a pilot, high-performance buildings technology application center serving the southern United States. Its overall mission is to leverage the existing interactions and outreach activities of the SEEC principals and partners to substantially increase the deployment of high-performance, beyond-code buildings across the southern region of the U.S.  Primary funding is from the US Department of Energy Building Technologies Program (BTP), administered by the National Energy Technology Laboratory.

About Us

The SEEC team is led by the Florida Solar Energy Center (FSEC) in partnership with the Southface Energy Institute (Southface) and the Energy Systems Laboratory (ESL) at Texas A&M University. These three principals represent the most knowledgeable and experienced building energy efficiency institutions and building science expertise in the South, having extensive experience in both commercial and residential buildings.

SEEC principals are actively transferring building science knowledge into improved buildings by extensive participation in code development, through organizations such as ASHRAE, AIA, USGBC, and RESNET, and by means of training courses.

Florida Solar Energy Center

The Florida Solar Energy Center currently manages the Building America Industrialized Housing Partnership and the Southeast Photovoltaic Residential Experiment Station programs for the Department of Energy (DOE) and has significant experience in deploying high-performance buildings integrating DOE-developed technologies.

Southface Energy Institute

Southface is a national leader in commercial and residential green building and building energy codes. Southface is the premier building energy efficiency and green buildings partnership and training institute in the South, with their programs reaching over 40,000 people annually.

Energy Systems Laboratory

The Energy Systems Laboratory, at Texas A&M University, is responsible for impressive and innovative achievements in high-performance, beyond-code building programs in the region. Their exemplary programs include the Texas "LoanSTAR" commercial buildings program, the Texas Emissions Reduction Plan and their role as the official "arbiter" for Texas' progressive energy code and its beyond-code Energy Efficiency Portfolio standards.

Partners

The energy directors of each of the twelve regional states, listed below, serve as one advisory panel. A second larger steering committee consists of representatives of various stakeholder groups who will assist in the dissemination of unbiased energy information.
